FIRST ORIENTATION

You just became a college student, and that means a lot of new opportunities for you, but also a lot of new responsibilities and worries. This brochure will help you better manage your entry into student life.

Most of the most important processes, rules and obligations are described both in the Study and Examination Regulations of the Technical University of Liberec (hereinafter referred to as TUL), but also in the internal standards of the Dean of the Faculty of Economics - in directives and orders. You can find them on the website of the Faculty of Economics www.ef.tul.cz under the tab STUDENTS - STUDY REGULATIONS. These rules are regularly updated by the relevant members of the faculty management. Going to the faculty website and reading the regulations and information will pay off!

OBTAINING A STUDENT NUMBER

The student's personal number will appear directly in the "Process information" section of the electronic application, where you will find it in September. The student number always starts with the year of study initiation and therefore changes every year. This number will accompany you throughout your studies.

CREDITS

Credits are probably the most important innovation during your studies. Each undergraduate student must earn a minimum of 180 credits. At least 120 credits in the subsequent studies. In the study plan of each field, this number of credits is divided between compulsory, mandatory optional and optional subjects (it varies by field). Credits signal the degree of difficulty and also the importance of the given subject.

ATTENTION! It is necessary to obtain at least 15 credits for the first semester of study, at least 35 credits for the first year of study.

You can find all valid study plans on the website of the Faculty of Economics under the tab STUDENTS - STUDY PLANS. Every student can also see them when logging into IS STAG.

There may be several valid study plans for a given field. So be careful and follow the study plan valid for the academic year in which you started your studies.

ISIC CARD

To prove that you are really a student, you need to get either an ISIC (International Student Identity Card) or a cheaper chip card.

Getting an ISIC card is not mandatory, but it is beneficial because it allows you to take advantage of student discounts at many places around the world. You will be introduced to the process of obtaining an ISIC card right at the beginning of your studies. Its validity is one year, which you have to keep an eye on (on the website www.ef.tul.cz).

It is necessary to order a revalidation sticker in time, on the website http://www.tul.cz/karty/index.php, which will then be sold to you at the study department at a predetermined date.

DOCTOR

If you want to be sure to change your general practitioner in view of your work in Liberec, or if you are just surprised by an acute health complication, you have the option of going to the university and general practitioner for adults, MUDr. Dagmar Švorcová, who has her office in building F. You can also visit MUDr. Petra Lajžnerová, her surgery is located in block F of the university dormitories.

But you can just as well study at TUL and stay with your general practitioner at home.

BANK ACCOUNT

All payments between the student and TUL are made only by cashless transfer to personal accounts. You will need a bank account during your studies, so it is necessary to enter it in IS STAG, where you also have to update your personal and contact information.

SCHOLARSHIPS

As a student, you can access a whole range of scholarships as a result of your time at university, which can at least partly improve your personal budget. Some are given across the board (accommodation), others are a reward for study diligence or perhaps for sporting achievements (merit scholarship, scholarship for representing the school). There is also social scholarship, which partially reduces social status inequalities

Accommodation, social and some other scholarships must be applied for through IS STAG and the general criteria for eligibility for a scholarship must be met. More information can be found on the TUL website http://www.tul.cz/intranet-studenti.

INFORMATION SYSTEMS AT TUL

There are several information systems at TUL. The basic systems are: IS STAG, E-learning portal and Liane. Complete information on what they are used for and how to log in can be found on the e-learning stream from Dr. Lamra.

IS STAG

Probably the most important application that you will need to be able to control is the TUL electronic information system called STAG (Study Agenda). You will encounter this system throughout your studies, and it is used for a number of tasks, from creating a schedule, signing up for credits and exams, to monitoring the results of your studies and the number of credits earned.

After transferring the study applicant to student status (after enrollment), you must first generate a university email using the code and instructions from the written decision on admission to study. This will only be possible from 5 September 2022. You can find more information about the LIANE network below.

Are you trying to log in to IS STAG for the first time?
The student's login name corresponds to the first part of the university email - name.surname (plus or number, if the names match at the university) and the password is set the same as in the email.

LIANE

LIANE (Liberec Academic Network) is a TUL computer network that you will use frequently during your studies. It covers almost all areas of the university. Thanks to it, you will get access to high-speed Internet, but also the opportunity to use a number of services that will come in handy during your studies. You can use the Eduroam wireless connection, so you will be mobile and online even in the library or study rooms. You can find the code for the first login to the LIANE network on the last lines of the Admission Decision you received by mail.

You can create access to the network from September. In case of problems (e.g. forgotten password, broken code), contact the study department.

Access to the LIANE network is really important, so we recommend that you also go through the following website, where you will find out other important details.

SCHEDULE and ENROLLMENT OF SUBJECTS

You make your own schedule right from the first semester. This gives you more freedom in planning your time, but also full responsibility for a correctly compiled schedule. What subjects you can choose is determined by the study plan for your specific field. Each student enrolls in the blocks that are intended for his field of study. You enroll in the subjects during the pre-registration period in IS STAG (the deadline is given by a decree of the vice-rector for studies and education).

You should never write down two schedule events at the same time. If, however, two scheduled events collide at the same time and you do not have the possibility to register for another scheduled event, contact the scheduler of the relevant department. Department schedulers are department secretaries, which you can find on the website under the departments/members tab.

ATTENTION! All the subjects that you enroll in once must be completed during your studies (including optional subjects).

After logging in to IS STAG, click on MY STUDY in the menu at the top. In the left column menu, select the PRE-REGISTRATION item and you can start creating a schedule for your current semester. The subjects are divided into blocks according to field and form of study. At the same time, you can see information about the minimum number of credits that must be obtained, and you have an overview of subjects that have already been completed.

In the first and second semesters of study, you only enroll in the compulsory subjects of the 1st year. The offer of specific learning blocks opens to you when you click on the shortcut of each subject.

UNIVERSITY EMAIL

To communicate with the university, it is necessary to use the university e‑mail box. This is primarily an advantage for you, as it clearly identifies you as a TUL student. Be aware that if you communicate with a teacher or the study department from a different email address, they may not respond to you because they are not sure if it is you.

Access to your university e‑mail box is from https://webmail.tul.cz. The username and password are the same as in the LIANE network (your e‑mail box is created when you create an account in the LIANE network). You can find more details on the website https://liane.tul.cz/cz/el_posta

If you are used to using an e-mail client other than the web interface of the university e-mail, you will also find instructions on how to set up the most frequently used e-mail clients, or how to set up e-mail forwarding and how to reset a forgotten password.
