About the Department

The Department of Foreign Languages is a test centre and accredited centre for the internationally recognised TOEIC® Listening and Reading and Wirtschaft auf Deutsch (WiDaF® and WiDaF® Basic) exams. These examinations are included in the List of Standardized Examinations of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Czech Republic. The scientific and research activities are also related to the publication activities focused on the issues of applied linguistics, didactics of foreign languages and the role of professional language in the context of the employment of TUL graduates in the labour market.
The educational content of the courses and the educational process methodology are continuously innovated by applying modern didactic principles and the use of current information technologies.

Teaching

Teaching

The Department of Foreign Languages provides full-time and combined teaching of Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes at the Faculty of Economics of the TUL and participates in the teaching of professional languages at other faculties. Teaching at the Faculty of Economics of TUL constitutes the major part of the Department's educational activities. Students of the Faculty of Economics of TUL receive instruction in two languages in their chosen study programme.

In the main language (over the duration of six semesters of study), students progress in language levels from threshold B1 to advanced level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

In the other chosen language (four semesters of study), they progress from the entry threshold level A2 to the advanced level B1. For students of other faculties, the Department provides mainly English and German language teaching, with teaching reflecting the specific needs of students of technical programmes and programmes of students of the Faculty of Health Studies of TUL. In its activities, the Department supports the development of interdisciplinary skills and links foreign language communicative skills with professional competences, across all study programmes of the Technical University of Liberec.
